An enduring friend promises new beginnings, even in the face of adversity, writes Mujeeb Jaihoon.

One day my mentor,
Gave much scold;
Hearing his scorn,
Tears rolled.

I left the assembly
Unable to speak:
None shall notice
My face meek.

That day my heart
Drowned in pain.
In search of relief,
Towards my friend I ran.

At once I shared,
My heart’s plight;
Before that face,
Full of light.

After hearing me,
For time long;
I received a reply,
Which made me strong:

“Why lose heart, hey Jaihoon,
Bold ones never cry this soon.

Your mentor gave you,
Such painful advice;
Since you are dearer,
Than anyone else.

You should feel rather
Blessed, fortunate:
A great one like him,
Is with you intimate”

Hey Reader!
A friend’s role
Is to defend;
When life’s trials,
Upon you descend.

No matter how severe
The winter:
Your friend will say,
‘Spring will one day enter’.

A true friend:
A Him-sent candle,
For hope in His Mercy,
To forever kindle.
